This IEEE conference talk explores the evaluation of three visual comparison techniques for change detection in Virtual Reality (VR). Learn about the Sliding Window, 3D Slider, and Switch Back techniques as researchers Changrui Zhu, Ernst Kruijff, Vijay M Pawar, and Simon Julier present their findings from a user study with 39 participants. Discover how these techniques perform under various perceptual challenges (size change, lighting variation, scene drift) and six change conditions (appearance, disappearance, translation, rotation, replacement, no change). The 13-minute presentation reveals significant differences in detection time and user experience, highlighting VR's potential to enhance change detection tasks that traditionally require human intervention despite algorithmic advances. Part of the 3D user interfaces session at IEEE VR 2025.
