We're focused on two missions:

- Delivering world-class journalism with deep, insightful coverage on online learning
We've built The Report around rigorous, expert analysis that goes beyond surface-level coverage. We're open to receiving pitches for online education trends, news, analysis, listicles, and best courses guides.
We're Looking for Pitches on:
- Industry Trends: Developments, technological shifts, and patterns reshaping online education. Examples include: Personalized AI-Powered Tutors are Here, but at a Premium, White-Labeling in Online Education, In India, MOOCs Are Now Part of the Education System.
- Platform News - Major updates about leading online learning platforms, including business developments, policy changes, and corporate moves. Examples include: Udemy Earns More, Pays Instructors Less, 2U/edX Implements Another Round of Layoffs, Coursera Turns to Amazon for its Next CEO.
- Analysis - In-depth analytical pieces that examine the business, strategy, and impact of online education companies and trends through data-driven insights. Examples include: Why Duolingo is Worth More Than Coursera and Udemy Combined, A Deep Dive Into Coursera's Financials, How Online Course Platforms Track Learners in 2022, Does Duolingo Want Us To Hate Its Ads?.
- Unconventional and Comprehensive Resource Guides and Listicles - Unique, well-researched compilations and guides that offer value to learners seeking specific educational resources or insights. Examples include: 150+ Stanford's On-Campus Computer Science Courses, 9 Unique Ways to Understand LLMs, and Best Coursera Courses with Peer Reviews.
- Best Courses Guides - Deep-dive reviews of top-performing courses across subjects and platforms, backed by learner reviews, instructor credentials, and comprehensive evaluation criteria. Examples include: Best PHP courses (for beginners), Best Deep Learning Courses, Best Machine Learning Courses.
Note: We accept pieces previously published on personal platforms (blogs/websites).
What We're Not Looking for
- Personal Essays and Opinion Pieces - We focus on data-driven analysis rather than individual experiences or subjective perspectives
- How-to Guides and Tutorials - We don't publish instructional content or step-by-step guides
- Individual Course Reviews - We cover industry trends and platform analysis rather than specific course reviews
- General Education Content - We focus on online learning and digital education platforms
- Promotional Content or Press Releases - We want original analysis and reporting, not repackaged company announcements or promotions of specific courses or platforms
Who Should Pitch Us
We're looking for expert insights and in-depth coverage. You should pitch us if:
- You cover ed-tech, online learning platforms, or adjacent fields like upskilling, training, or workforce development
- You have unique access to exclusive data, insider sources, or specialized subject matter expertise
- You're a course creator, educator, or industry insider with firsthand experience with platform changes, teaching trends, or the business side of online education
- (For Best Courses Guides) You're a senior professional or expert in a specialized field who can study, judge, and recommend quality courses and resources in your field (AI/ML engineering, cybersecurity, digital marketing, UX/UI design, data science, cloud architecture, product management, fintech, sustainability, creator economy, or emerging fields like agentic AI and generative engine optimization)
How to Submit a Pitch
Send your pitch to careers@classcentral.com with the subject line: Pitch: [Your Proposed Headline]
The ideal pitch should include:
- Your Background - Tell us who you are, your background, and your writing experience (please include 1-2 writing samples)
- Your Story Idea - Within 300 words, explain the angle and give us a clear picture of your story
- Your Reporting Plan - Include experts you'll interview (not necessary for Best Courses Guides), official documents you'll review, or any other kinds of research you plan to do or have done
Overall, your pitch should answer these questions:
- Who: What's your background, and why are you the right person to write this?
- What: What's the core story or insight you're exploring?
- How: What's your reporting approach and narrative structure?
- Why: Why is this story important to our readers right now?
- Where: Which section of The Report does this fit in (industry trends, platform news, analysis, resource guide, or Best Courses Guides)?

What We Pay
We offer competitive rates based on content type and complexity:
- Best Courses Guides & Resource Lists: $250 - $500 per article
- News, Analysis & Industry Journalism: $500 - $1,250 per article
- Performance Bonus: +30% bonus for articles exceeding 25,000 views in the first month
Compensation is adjusted based on PPP/location if outside the US.
Our Response Timeline
We review all pitches carefully and aim to respond within two weeks. Due to a high submission volume, we can only respond to pitches that fit our current editorial needs, but please feel free to pitch again with new ideas.
