This IEEE conference talk presents research on making virtual reality more accessible for blind users through innovative aiming techniques. Discover how researchers from Universidade de Lisboa explored three different approaches to support blind people in VR aiming tasks using an archery scenario: Spatialized Audio (baseline with 3D sound for target location), Target Confirmation (enhanced with beep sounds indicating proximity), and Reticle-Target Perspective (providing auditory feedback on the relationship between target and aiming reticle). Learn about the study conducted with 15 blind participants that revealed Target Confirmation and Reticle-Target Perspective significantly outperformed the baseline method. The 10-minute presentation discusses implications for developing more accessible and enjoyable VR experiences for a broader range of users, contributing to the ongoing conversation about accessibility in immersive interfaces.
