The Industrial Automation course provides a comprehensive understanding of the technologies and systems that enable automation in modern industries. This eight-week course covers the essential components of industrial automation, including sensors, measurement systems, control technologies, actuators, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human–machine interfaces (HMI), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Learners will explore industrial communication networks, data acquisition techniques, and the implementation of control strategies in real-world applications. The course also introduces advanced topics such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) in automation, and Industry 4.0, offering insights into the future of smart and connected manufacturing systems. Through a blend of conceptual learning, simulation-based exercises, and case studies, learners will develop the knowledge and skills required to design, analyze, and manage industrial automation systems efficiently and effectively. Course Outcomes:After successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:Describe the basic principles, structure, and need for industrial automation in modern manufacturing and process industries.Identify and explain the operation of various sensors, measurement systems, actuators, and control elements used in automation systems.Analyze and apply control technologies to design and implement simple automation processes.Develop and simulate PLC programs, and integrate HMI and SCADA for monitoring and control of industrial systems.Explain industrial communication standards, networking concepts, and their application in industrial control and data acquisition.Evaluate recent advancements in automation such as Industrial IoT, AI integration, and Industry 4.0 through case studies and practical examples.
