Explore the ethical complexities of photojournalism in this thought-provoking 11-minute TEDx talk. Delve into the often-overlooked exploitative aspects of the industry, where photographers and news outlets profit from their subjects without always representing the full truth. Examine the story of Sharbart Gula, the famous girl featured in National Geographic, as a case study to address the unethical practices in photojournalism. Learn about the importance of recognizing the complete narrative behind an image, rather than relying on preconceived stereotypes. This talk challenges both journalists and readers to critically examine the ethics of visual storytelling and its impact on how we perceive and understand the world around us.

As much as I agree to Emily You's submission on the subject, the critical question to ask is: what is the basic responsibility of the Photojournalist? Should he first, seek for permission from his subject before clicking his shots? Thereby altering the originality of his narration. With reference to the photo of the Afghan Girl, the Photojournalist dwelt much on self opinion, as a lone photo of the girl never told the whole story, so he (the Photojournalist) would have done a photo documentary, that would have told more of the story of what life was at the refugee camp.
