ABOUT THE COURSE:Women in history are victim of broad generalizations being made about them and are always read in the binary of good or bad which has done more harm than good to the understanding Indian women. The contemporary Indian women discourse has been more or less dominated by the Western feminist viewpoint, overlooking India’s own tradition and culture. This course design would help to decolonize the learners mind and to acquaint them with the right understanding of early women. Each lecture is structured meticulously to help participants understand and explore the different dimensions of the historical journey of early women. The underlying idea that resonates most clearly in Indian tradition is the complementarity of the relationship of men and women. It’s the twenty first century feminist theory that overpowers our psyche and we go on studying both of them as two separate entities who are incompatible. The course would discuss women’s economic participation, their role in decision-making processes and their right to property which gave them socio-economic security in ancient India. The course is designed to explore the intellectual world of early Indian women, deconstruct the knowledge tradition that existed and understand the inclusive feature of the tradition for women. The medium of instruction in all the video lectures in this course would be bilingual (English and Hindi) for the convenience of the learners.INTENDED AUDIENCE:UG/ PG/ PhD students of Humanities and Social SciencesPREREQUISITES: 12th passed outINDUSTRY SUPPORT:Any industry or organization working in the area of gender sensitization / gender advocacy, Culture and Heritage, Art and Architecture etc.
