ABOUT THE COURSE: The course is broadly classified into two sections. The first part explains the concept of limit state of collapse and serviceability, beam design against flexure, shear, and bond length. Then, the designs of one and two-way slabs, staircases, and axially loaded columns are taught with numerical examples following IS specifications. The last component of the first part is the design concepts of shallow and deep foundations and their detailing. In the second part, different advanced design concepts are introduced, e.g., the IS code specifications for ductile detailing of the members, followed by the beam-column joint and strong column-weak beam concept. Then, the behavior and design procedure for flat slabs and deep beams are explained with examples. This is followed by the design procedure for the circular tank, intze tank, and underground rectangular tank. At last, the analysis of a multi-stored building and the design of structural members are demonstrated using Finite Element software.INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG Final Year Students
