ABOUT THE COURSE:This course explores Renaissance sensibilities through the major English dramatists Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, and John Webster. It examines how humanism, ambition, power, morality, and knowledge shape Renaissance drama. Through close readings of Doctor Faustus, Macbeth, Hamlet, The Tempest, and The Duchess of Malfi, students analyse tragic form and character complexity.The course situates these texts within the historical, philosophical, and theatrical contexts of the Renaissance.
