Over recent years, enthusiasm for Willamette Valley wines has grown exponentially. Although Oregon produces only 1% of the nation's wine by volume, its wines represent 20% of Wine Spectator magazine's highest-ranked selections. The preponderance of these acclaimed wines comes from the Willamette Valley, which is renowned for its cool-climate Pinot Noir, lean Chardonnay, distinctive Riesling, and increasingly exceptional Gamay wines.
The Willamette Valley is expansive in size, nearly matching the land area of Connecticut. While the region has only three primary soil classifications, the interaction of these soils with the diverse mesoclimates resulting from its complex topography creates unique characteristics for each AVA designation. This detailed workshop covers all these elements thoroughly, plus new AVAs and laws currently pending approval.
