Discover the remarkable wines of Castilla y Leon, the sweeping inland region of Spain where extreme climate, high elevation, and deep tradition converge to create some of the most powerful, complex wines in the country.
Occupying nearly a fifth of mainland Spain, Castilla y Leon encompasses some of the nation's most celebrated wine appellations, including Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Toro. The Duero River Valley rises to considerable elevation and experiences some of the most dramatic temperature swings of any wine-producing region in the world. An old Castilian saying sums it up: the year consists of nine months of winter and three months of hell. Yet Tempranillo not only survives here, it flourishes, producing wines of remarkable depth, structure, and character.
