Some of the world's most exciting and commercially successful wines are produced south of the equator. This course offers a comprehensive look at the breadth and character of the Southern Hemisphere's wine regions, tracing their "New World" ambitions alongside the "Old World" traditions and grape varieties that shaped them.
In a single course, you will journey through the vineyards of Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. These dynamic regions have steadily earned global recognition, challenging long-established European producers and steadily growing their share of the international wine market. You will develop a solid understanding of each country's key growing areas, diverse climates, soil profiles, signature grape varieties, and the winemaking philosophies that define their distinctive styles.
From the crisp, herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand's Marlborough region to the bold, structured reds of Argentina's Mendoza, the Southern Hemisphere offers a remarkable spectrum of styles and flavors that reward exploration.
Wines featured in this course include:
- Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
- Casablanca Chardonnay
- Maipo Carménère
- Mendoza Malbec
- Barossa Shiraz
- Stellenbosch Pinotage
- And a range of additional selections
