Travel south to explore the distinctive wine regions of Provence, including the Côte d'Azur. This comprehensive course examines the rich history and geography of three major French wine-producing regions: Provence, Languedoc, and Roussillon. These regions possess unique climatic characteristics and viticultural traditions that shape their distinctive wines. Provence holds the distinction of being France's oldest wine region, while Languedoc and Roussillon, though often discussed together, each maintain their own regional identity and winemaking practices. Notably, Roussillon produces 90 percent of France's Vins Doux Naturels, and Languedoc is home to France's first and oldest sparkling wine production. This course provides a detailed exploration of the history, geography, climate, and wines defining each region.
