Discover the undiscovered treasures of the Loire Valley, one of France's most remarkable and diverse wine regions. Did you know that the Sauvignon Blanc vineyards of Menetou-Salon, Reuilly, and Quincy flourish on Kimmeridgean marl soil? Or that Savennieres produces one of the world's longest-lived white wines? Are you familiar with the distinctive grape varieties Breton, Cot, and Pineau d'Aunis? This comprehensive class invites you to explore a wine culture as extensive and flowing as the legendary Loire River itself.
The Loire Valley is flanked by dozens of distinct AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) regions, each producing unique wines reflecting the area's remarkable diversity. This course provides an in-depth exploration of the region's history, geography, climate, and distinctive wine styles. You will learn about le Jardin de la France, as the Loire is affectionately known, developing a sophisticated understanding of the region's many grape varieties, winemaking traditions, and the terroir that shapes each wine's character.
