Explore a 10-minute IEEE conference talk examining how spatial audio and tactile cues can be effectively aligned for directional guidance. Presented by researchers Dajin Lee and Seungmoon Choi from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) as part of the "Multimodal Interaction and Audio Perception" session, this research investigates the just noticeable differences (JNDs) between auditory and tactile stimuli in the horizontal plane. The study reveals that JNDs increase from 26° to 84° as stimuli move from the center to the side of the body, and demonstrates that perceptual alignment within these JND ranges performs comparably to exact physical alignment for hazard avoidance tasks. The findings have important implications for designing multimodal warning systems and spatial navigation aids.
