This conference talk presents OPVSim, a Virtual Reality training simulation developed for emergency procedures in a ship's engineering room using a graph-based methodology called ProtoColVR. Learn how researchers from Universidad de los Andes and the Colombian Navy designed this VR system to bridge the gap between traditional training methods and real machinery interaction. The presentation covers how the simulator incorporates tutorials, step-by-step training, feedback mechanisms, and alternative solution paths. Discover the results of a study with 32 participants (including both cadets and experienced officers) that demonstrated increased knowledge, improved usability, enhanced presence, and better workload outcomes. The speakers also discuss findings, limitations, and implications for designing effective VR training systems for guided procedural learning in complex operational environments.
