This online talk titled "Curation as Misinformation" features speakers Cailin O'Connor and James Owen Weatherall from the University of California, Irvine, as part of the "Kaapi with Kuriosity" series by the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences. Explore how information curation—the sharing of accurate but incomplete information—can function as a powerful form of misinformation, potentially as misleading as outright lies. Discover why focusing solely on suppressing false claims is insufficient for combating misinformation, and why equal attention must be paid to how curated true claims can mislead. The speakers, both Chancellor's Professors at UC Irvine, bring significant expertise to this discussion: O'Connor specializes in models of social interaction and has authored four books including "The Misinformation Age" and "The Origins of Unfairness," while Weatherall serves as Editor-in-Chief of Philosophy of Science and has authored three books and numerous peer-reviewed articles. The 73-minute talk will be held online on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
