A clean, organized workplace is safer and more pleasant, leading to greater productivity. 5S is a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words translated as "sort," "set in order," "shine," "standardize," and "sustain." Employees can use this list to set order in their workplace while increasing employee safety. Students will understand how 5S is a system of organization and how it is implemented in office, shop, and hangar environments. Students will be able to assess common work practices for unsafe conditions and how to sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain new work practices, all without a large outlay of capital or expenditure and increasing company profitability.
