Hiring someone is a big decision--and the process doesn’t end when the offer is accepted. This course will help you understand how to select candidates fairly, make stronger hiring decisions, and create onboarding experiences that help new employees feel prepared, supported, and ready to contribute. You’ll learn how to move candidates through the selection process, create clear screening criteria, ask better interview questions, use assessment tools, and evaluate candidates with evidence instead of “gut feel.” You’ll also explore the legal and documentation practices that help make hiring decisions fair, consistent, and defensible. From there, you’ll shift into onboarding: building 30/60/90-day plans, designing meaningful first-week activities, incorporating compliance training, and measuring whether onboarding is working. This course is a great fit for current HR professionals, managers, team leads, and anyone interested in starting a career in HR, recruiting, or talent management.

Syllabus

  • Designing an Effective Employee Selection Process
    • A strong selection process is where great recruiting pays off, transforming subjective choices into fair decisions. This module covers the end-to-end workflow, converting job requirements into measurable criteria, selecting assessment tools, and applying structured evaluation frameworks. By the end, you will be able to design an objective and candidate-friendly hiring process that reliably identifies top talent.
  • Structuring Selection and Candidate Evaluation
    • Selection works best when each step is structured, job-related, and grounded in evidence. In this module, you’ll examine how candidates move through the selection process, how screening criteria and interview questions support consistent evaluation, how assessment tools add useful data, and how structured scoring helps hiring teams make fair, defensible decisions.
  • Creating Effective Employee Onboarding Programs
    • First impressions shape employee retention and performance. This module covers how to design structured onboarding experiences, integrate practical compliance training, build early engagement through manager support and early wins, and measure program effectiveness using retention data. By the end, you will be able to build comprehensive onboarding plans that drive new hire success.
  • Applying Selection and Onboarding Judgment
    • This final module brings together the full path from selecting a candidate to supporting their early success. You’ll apply structured selection methods, compliance practices, documentation, onboarding planning, and engagement strategies to realistic workplace situations. By the end, you’ll be able to make better hiring and onboarding decisions using evidence, fairness, and professional judgment.
