This course introduces the basic theories and concepts in Chinese medicine. It is intended for the international learners of Chinese medicine at the basic level.
With this course, the learner may understand and be able to explain the essence of the Chinese culture.
As a fundamental and board-spectrum course, each unit involves elements of the Chinese culture and Chinese studies.
Unit One: A general introduction and a brief history of Chinese medicine.
Unit Two: Basic concepts of the Yin-Yang theory and its application in medicine.
Unit Three: Basic concepts of the Five-element (Wu Xing) theory and its application in medicine.
Unit Four: Basic concepts of Qi, Blood, and Body fluids; The basic composition and functions of Qi, Blood, Body fluids, and their inter-relationships.
Unit Five: Basic concepts of the structure, functions, and features of the Zang-Fu organs.
Unit Six: Concepts, composition, and functions of the meridians and collaterals.
Unit Seven: Concepts of etiology in Chinese Medicine and characteristics of internal, external and neutral causes of diseases.
Unit Eight: Concepts of the Four Methods of diagnosis (Si Zhen); process of Chinese medicine diagnostics; the core concept, contents and clinical application of the Eight Principle Differentiation (Ba Gang Bian Zheng) theory.
The teaching staff of this course are rich in teaching experience in the field of translation, language teaching, cross-cultural communication and Chinese medicine. Learners’ questions and problems in the learning process will be well attended.
