This course supports teachers and educational content creators in designing effective educational multimedia such as worksheets, presentations, posters and videos.

Participants learn to create visually clear materials, ethically use open educational resources, apply multimedia principles grounded in Cognitive Load Theory and Mayer’s Principles, and integrate technology meaningfully using the SAMR framework. Through interactive activities, hands-on creation and peer learning, the course enables educators to design inclusive, accessible and impactful learning experiences.

Syllabus

  • Week 1: Module 1 - Visual Communication: Learn how to use visuals as effective teaching tools by applying simple design principles and selecting the right type of visual to improve clarity, focus and student understanding—without relying on complex software.
  • Week 2: Module 2 - Open Educational Resources (OER): Understand intellectual property rights and Creative Commons licensing while learning to find, adapt, share and license open resources confidently and ethically for classroom use.
  • Week 3: Module 3 - Educational Multimedia Theory: Examine how learners process information through memory, the role of cognitive load in learning and the application of Mayer’s Multimedia Principles in designing effective Educational Multimedia.
  • Week 4: Module 4 - SAMR Model: Decide the type and extent of technology integration required to meet the learning outcome, and move beyond basic substitution to create more engaging, interactive and transformative learning experiences.
