Create simple and clear logo designs that also seriously stand out with Will Paterson! Great logos are iconic and evocative of a brand—but designing them well without copying everyone else can be one of the biggest challenges in graphic design. In this class, graphic designer and YouTuber Will Paterson will walk you through the unique process for creating memorable logos for a variety of brands, and give you the tools to do the same. Starting from an imaginary client brief, you’ll work alongside Will as he goes step-by-step through the process of getting to a final design, including: - Researching the client and their competition, and coming up with a mood board of creative visuals to represent them. - Brainstorming potential concepts using Will’s approach of rapidly sketching and refining ideas until you “fail to success” and find the one that works. - Turning your best idea into a final vector in Illustrator, and choosing fonts and colors to round out your final design. Along the way, he’ll share pro tips about what makes a good logo great, strategies to properly assess your own work, and plenty of tools to level up your workflow. Whether you have a logo project you’re working on for a client or are just looking to grow your graphic design skills, this class will leave you with a system you can confidently follow to create great logos time and time again. This class is great for beginners who want to learn to design logos step-by-step, or more immediate designers who are hoping to refine their process and skills. You’ll need Adobe Illustrator or a similar vector program to complete the final project. A tablet with a digital drawing app like Procreate might help you out, but you can also complete the early brainstorming phases using pencil and paper. In this course, taught by Adam Chraibi, you will be learning about the logo animation principles in Adobe After Effects CC, we will be focusing more on the techniques rather than the theory. Since people react better to videos than images, logo animation can help the designer and the brand connect deeper with their customers. So, in this course you will learn about: - Coming up with the plot and logo restrictions - The basic principles of logo animation - Making a simple but neat logo reveal and disappear - Creating a more advanced logotype animation using the principles of animation This course is for beginners in logo animation, but being familiar with Adobe After Effects is recommended in order for you to focus on the animation techniques rather than the software. You will need: - Adobe After Effects CC, the latest version - Duik Bassel Free script - Rift free script Once you download the scripts, you basically just need to unzip and place the ''.jsx'' file in the correct folder. By the end of this course, you should be able to apply these techniques to any logotypes and symbols. Course instructor Jon Brommet asks: Whether you are a Graphic Designer, a business owner who just needs to design their own logo, or even a hobbyist, one of the most important factors of good logo design is versatility. Meaning, does the logo work in as many different places as possible? This is more important than ever because logos appear in ways we never previously predicted. This is a very important aspect of how to design a logo. From social media to app icons on your watch, a logo must now appear at impossibly small sizes. In this course, we will go over a variety of case studies illustrating how big brands tackle the problem of making sure their brand is still recognizable across a wide variety of applications and sizes. Some solutions are unique to say the least. Remember, many of these brands have spent millions of dollars to make sure their logos are as perfect and versatile as possible. So let’s take some time to study them in ways we haven’t before, so we can learn as much as possible on their dollar. This class is designed for anyone who wants to know more about what makes a great logo. Whether that’s a small business owner, an entrepreneur, or a junior or intermediate graphic designer who hasn’t learned the subtleties needed to create a great and versatile design. Don't skip this! This information isn't a quick fix trend; this is the kind of information that'll change how you think about design from now on. Instructor bio: Jon Brommet is the designer and founder of Crusoe Design Co., a creative studio specializing in logo design and branding, based in the scenic Muskoka region of Ontario. As your course instructor, James Barnard, I'll tell you: I can’t draw! There, I’ve said it. And I’m proud to say it, because there’s a stigma that seems to follow designers around like a bad smell; that in order to be a great logo designer, you need to be good at sketching. I am proof that you do not. Over roughly 15 years I have worked with companies from all over the globe, designing logos for motorcycle clubs, restaurants, sports bars, electricians, tech firms, musicians and even tv personalities. And I made every one of these logos without the need for artistic skills with a pen and paper, by creating a workflow that allows me to work at lightning fast speeds in Adobe Illustrator. During my career I have worked in the publishing industry, for in-house design teams, at agencies and as a freelancer for my own clients. And at every single one of these jobs I made a name for myself as a designer that works quickly. In this course I’ll show you my secrets to working in Illustrator at super speed, to help you test and ultimately refine your designs in a vector format. You’ll discover how to: - Set up your hardware - Customise your workspaces and keyboard shortcuts - Use additional software and hardware tricks With these tips you'll be flying around Adobe Illustrator and working iteratively inside the program. Some of the techniques in this course are for beginners, but ideally you should have a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator. I will cover some of the fundamental tools you’ll need to work up logos, but I’d class this course as beginner-to-intermediate. The workflow and techniques in this course are designed to help you question your current workflow and to help you optimise your output and increase your efficiency. With these tips, you’ll be able to take simple line drawings (terrible sketches) and work them up in vector in no time, to either rule out that concept, or refine it to perfection. And with these skills you’ll hopefully be able to get more clients through the door. At the end of the course you can follow along as I design a logo from start to finish. Formerly a designer in the UK publishing industry, he now runs his freelance logo design business from Australia’s Gold Coast, specializing in creating visual identities with meaning. In addition to his client work, James is passionate about teaching the next generation of designers. Through his courses and online content, he shares his expertise in design software and creative business, reaching and inspiring a community of over half a million learners worldwide.
