This hands-on course guides learners through the core and intermediate concepts of Unreal Engine’s Blueprint visual scripting system. Designed for aspiring developers and game designers, the curriculum blends structured learning with practical implementation across four progressive modules. Starting with foundational Blueprint concepts and interface navigation, learners will identify key components and understand the flow of node-based logic. The course then advances to scripting techniques that allow learners to apply logic using variables, functions, and events to drive actor behavior. As the modules progress, students will construct responsive systems including visual effects, light interactions, and dynamic pickup mechanics. Through advanced sessions, learners will demonstrate how to modify actor properties using editable variables, spawning systems, and user input. By the end of the course, learners will be able to create fully interactive, dynamic gameplay environments and confidently implement Blueprint logic to simulate real-time in-game behavior, complete with lighting, particle systems, audio cues, and input controls.

Syllabus

  • Blueprint Essentials
    • This module introduces learners to the core concepts and foundational tools of Unreal Engine's Blueprint visual scripting system. Learners will explore the Blueprint Editor, understand how to create and manipulate Blueprint classes and nodes, and gain a practical grasp of using variables, graphs, events, and conditionals to build interactive gameplay logic. By the end of this module, students will be able to construct and manage basic visual scripts for use in game development workflows.
  • Blueprint Scripting in Practice
    • This module delves into practical applications of Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system by guiding learners through creating functional scripts, organizing logic using comment boxes, and building interactive components like pickup objects. It introduces essential scripting techniques such as construction scripts, actor references, collision-based interactions, and using Timelines with float curve data to control animations and visual effects. By the end of this module, learners will be equipped to implement foundational interactive mechanics and dynamic behaviors in a visual scripting environment.
  • Lighting and Interaction
    • This module introduces learners to intermediate Blueprint scripting concepts for implementing dynamic lighting behaviors and actor-level interactivity in Unreal Engine. Students will explore light control through functions and timelines, manage rotation effects, and manipulate Blueprint actor properties using editable variables and construction scripts. By applying these techniques, learners will be able to enrich their game environments with responsive and configurable visual elements.
  • Spawning and Input Systems
    • This module focuses on enhancing interactivity and dynamic gameplay behavior through Blueprint scripting in Unreal Engine. Learners will gain hands-on experience with editable variables, material assignments, and spawning systems, as well as input-driven interactions, sound, and particle effects. By the end of this module, students will be able to implement runtime object spawning, use keyboard inputs to drive logic, and set up visually and functionally interactive environments using Blueprints.
