Learning is most powerful when learners actively shape the experiences designed for them. Building on the foundations of learner-centered teaching, this course explores approaches that position learners as collaborators, researchers, designers, and changemakers in the educational process. You will examine participatory action research, youth participatory action research (YPAR), human-centered design, and environmental and holistic educational approaches. Through case studies and practitioner perspectives, you'll learn how educators can partner with learners to co-create meaningful learning experiences that honor learners' voices, experiences, and expertise. By the end of the course, you'll be able to identify strategies for designing educational experiences that are collaborative, responsive, and centered on the needs of learners and communities.
