On a manufacturing floor, the difference between a minor incident and a life-altering injury often comes down to one thing, the right personal protective equipment, worn correctly. This course builds the knowledge every manufacturing worker needs to select, wear, inspect, and maintain PPE with confidence, aligned with OSHA's PPE Standard (29 CFR 1910 Subpart I). You will learn how to conduct a PPE hazard assessment, understand what each category of PPE protects against, and recognize the critical difference between PPE that fits and functions correctly versus PPE that creates a false sense of security. No prior safety training required. Through real-world video demonstrations and hands-on scenario activities, you will practice selecting the right eye and face protection, hand, head, foot, and body protection for the tasks machine operators, welders, grinders, and material handlers perform every shift and learn how to inspect and maintain that equipment, so it keeps doing its job. Enroll today and ensure every worker on your floor is protected, compliant, and equipped to make the right PPE decisions independently.

Syllabus

  • PPE Fundamentals
    • PPE is not the first line of defense, but in manufacturing, it is often the last. Before selecting a single piece of equipment, workers and supervisors must understand why PPE is required, what the law mandates, and how to systematically identify which hazards call for which protection. This module introduces OSHA's PPE standard, establishes the hierarchy of controls that places PPE at its correct position, and walks you through the formal hazard assessment process that every US manufacturing facility is legally required to perform and certify in writing.
  • PPE in Practice
    • Knowing PPE is required is only half the job, knowing exactly which type to use, how to wear it correctly, and how to inspect it before each use is what actually keeps workers safe. This module progresses category by category through the PPE types most commonly required in manufacturing environments. It covers the specific hazards each type addresses, the applicable OSHA and ANSI standards, and the inspection and maintenance practices that ensure they perform as rated. Every lesson is grounded in the real tasks performed by machine operators, welders, grinders, and material handlers on an active manufacturing floor.
  • Final Review and Assessment
    • This module wraps up the course with a focused reinforcement of the most critical PPE principles before a graded final assessment. You will learn about the key decisions and non-negotiables covered across both content modules, from hazard assessment to category-specific selection to inspection and then demonstrate their competency through scenario-based questions drawn directly from the manufacturing tasks covered throughout the course.
