Hazardous chemicals in manufacturing aren't just a compliance checkbox; they're a daily reality that demands the right knowledge, the right habits, and the right response. This course builds the skills, awareness, and confidence your workforce needs to work safely with hazardous substances every shift, without exception. You will learn to accurately read GHS labels and Safety Data Sheets, interpret GHS pictograms and signal words, and know which SDS section to reference before handling any chemical. Fully aligned to OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200, updated 2024), the course requires no prior chemistry or safety background. Through real-world video demonstrations and interactive scenario-based activities, you will learn to identify chemical hazards, apply safe chemical handling and storage practices, and select the right PPE for chemical safety. You will practice making critical decisions, from recognizing unsafe practices on the floor to responding correctly to a chemical spill or chemical exposure incident. Enroll today and take the first step toward a safer, fully HazCom-compliant workplace.

Syllabus

  • Understanding Chemical Hazards and HazCom Basics
    • In a manufacturing environment, hazardous chemicals are part of every shift and knowing how to work with them safely isn't optional, it's the law. This module introduces learners to the chemical hazards present on a typical shop floor and to OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, the federal regulation that gives every worker the right to know what they're working with and why it matters. By the end, learners will recognize common hazard types, understand the core elements of a compliant HazCom program, and know where their own responsibilities begin and end.
  • Labels, SDSs, Safe Handling, and PPE
    • This module is where knowledge becomes skill. Learners develop the practical competencies they will use everyday, reading GHS labels and Safety Data Sheets, handling and storing chemicals correctly, selecting the right PPE, and responding effectively to spills and exposures. Every lesson is grounded in realistic manufacturing scenarios involving the solvents, coolants, cleaners, and corrosives workers encounter in real facilities, so the learning transfers directly to the floor.
  • Course Summary and Final Assessment
    • This module brings the course to a close. Learners revisit the most critical safety behaviors from across all modules, not as a passive review, but as a personal commitment to carrying these practices back to their workplace. The final assessment evaluates competency through scenario-based questions drawn from real manufacturing situations, confirming that learners understand their rights, their responsibilities, and the actions that keep themselves and their coworkers safe every shift.
