By learning about VLANs, EtherChannels, Spanning Tree, static and dynamic routing, NAT, and critical network services like DHCP, DNS, and QoS, you'll gain practical expertise in creating and maintaining robust networks. The hands-on approach of this course ensures that you'll gain skills applicable to real-world network operations. You will enhance your technical know-how, tackle common network challenges, and become adept at optimizing network performance. What sets this course apart is its combination of theoretical understanding with practical exercises, preparing you to solve complex networking issues in the field. Ideal for network administrators and IT professionals with a basic understanding of networking concepts, this course will take your skills to the next level. This course is part two of a three-course Specialization designed to provide a comprehensive learning pathway in this subject area. While it delivers standalone value and practical skills, learners seeking a more integrated and in-depth progression may benefit from completing the full Specialization.

Syllabus

  • Implementing VLANs and Interswitch Connectivity
    • This module explores how to segment networks using VLANs, configure and verify VLANs on Cisco switches, and establish interswitch connectivity through trunking and dynamic protocols. Learners will gain practical skills in tagging traffic, setting up trunk links, and enabling inter-VLAN routing using Layer 3 switches.
  • EtherChannels and Layer 2 Discovery Protocols
    • This module introduces the principles of link aggregation using EtherChannel and explores how Layer 2 discovery protocols help network professionals map and manage network topologies. Learners will gain hands-on experience configuring EtherChannels with LACP on Cisco switches and interpreting discovery protocol data to identify connected devices.
  • Understanding and Configuring Spanning Tree
    • This module introduces the principles and configuration of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) to prevent network loops and ensure redundancy in layer 2 networks. Learners will explore STP standards, port roles and states, and gain hands-on experience with root bridge selection and Rapid PVST+ implementation on Cisco devices.
  • Interpreting Routing Components
    • This module introduces the essential elements of IP routing on Cisco routers, focusing on how routing tables are structured and how routers make forwarding decisions. Learners will explore the significance of administrative distance and its impact on route selection. By the end, you'll be able to interpret routing tables and understand the logic behind routing decisions.
  • Understanding Static and Dynamic Routing
    • This module explores the principles and configuration of static and dynamic routing in IP networks, including IPv4 and IPv6. Learners will gain hands-on experience with routing protocols such as OSPF and redundancy techniques like HSRP to ensure network reliability and optimal data flow.
  • Network Address Translation
    • This module explores the principles and practical applications of Network Address Translation (NAT), including key terminology, dynamic and static NAT, and NAT overload (PAT). Learners will gain hands-on experience configuring NAT in real-world scenarios to enable secure and efficient connectivity between private and public networks.
  • Network Services and IP Operations
    • This module introduces essential network services such as NTP, DHCP, DNS, Syslog, and SNMP, focusing on their configuration and operation within Cisco IOS environments. Learners will gain hands-on experience implementing these services and explore Quality of Service (QoS) concepts to manage network traffic effectively. By the end, participants will understand how to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure network operations.
