Syllabus

  • Understanding the HRIS Home Screen
    • Mastering Dynamics 365 Human Resources begins with understanding how the system is organized around functional workspaces and role-based areas rather than generic menus. In this module, learners explore the structure of the D365 HR interface, including key workspaces such as Employee Self Service, Manager Self Service, and Personnel management. Learners are also introduced to the System Administrator area, where administrative tasks such as user management and workflow configuration are performed. By understanding how these areas group related tasks and data, learners build a practical foundation for navigating the system efficiently, completing transactions accurately, and locating information with confidence.
  • Completing Your First HRIS Transaction
    • Every task in Dynamics 365 Human Resources involves a transaction, and accuracy from the start is critical. In this module, learners practice submitting a time-off request using the system’s built-in process within the appropriate workspace. This experience demonstrates how Dynamics 365 enforces data completeness, applies workflow rules automatically, and routes requests through the correct approval channels. By understanding how the system handles these steps, learners build confidence in completing transactions correctly and efficiently.
  • Accurate Data Entry for New Hires
    • A single typo in an address field can delay a new hire's first paycheck. This module covers data entry best practices for new-hire information, with special attention to address formatting, abbreviation standards, verification techniques, and privacy considerations for handling employee personal information.
  • Peer Review and Error Correction
    • Fresh eyes catch what yours might miss. This module develops your ability to identify and correct data entry errors through systematic peer review, teaching you the swap-review-document-correct process and how to provide feedback that's constructive rather than critical.
  • Updating Emergency Contact Information
    • When a workplace emergency happens, accurate contact information isn't optional—it's essential. This module covers the process of updating employee emergency contact records in the HRIS, including required fields, documentation requirements, attachment management, and privacy considerations.
  • Verifying Data Completeness with Reports
    • Submitting an update is only half the job. Verifying it worked is the other half. This module teaches you to use HRIS reports to monitor data quality and confirm your work, including running the Missing Emergency Contact report and building verification into your weekly workflow.
  • Generating Absence Reports in Power BI
    • Spreadsheets tell you what happened, but dashboards help you understand why. This module teaches you to navigate Power BI, use the pre-built Attendance dashboard, and export absence data for monthly reporting in the format your stakeholders need.
  • Validating Report Accuracy
    • A report is only as trustworthy as the data behind it. This module develops your data validation skills, teaching you to cross-reference Power BI reports with HRIS source data, calculate variance, apply the two-percent threshold, and escalate discrepancies professionally.
  • Building an HR Metrics Dashboard
    • Numbers alone don't change minds—visualizations do. This module guides you through creating a custom Power BI dashboard featuring three essential HR metrics: turnover rate, time-to-hire, and engagement score, with attention to design principles that executives will trust.
  • Presenting Data-Driven Recommendations
    • Data without a recommendation is just noise. This module teaches you to interpret dashboard insights, identify significant changes, and present actionable recommendations to leadership using the Situation-Insight-Recommendation framework.
  • Implementing HRIS Modules with Business Rules
    • Manual processes create bottlenecks; configured modules remove them. This module teaches you to set up HRIS modules with eligibility rules, approval workflows, and automated notifications that ensure the right employees access the right programs through the right approval chains.
  • Conducting HR Technology Assessments
    • Your HRIS should evolve as your organization grows, but only if someone evaluates it. This module develops your ability to systematically assess HR technology using SWOT analysis, prioritize recommendations with the impact/effort matrix, and plan for change management during technology transitions.
  • AI-Assisted HR Data & Reporting
    • AI won't replace HR professionals, but it will amplify what you can do. This module introduces Microsoft Copilot for HR data and reporting work, teaching you what AI does well, where human judgment remains essential, and how to use these tools responsibly while maintaining privacy and compliance.
  • HR Data Dashboard & System Audit
    • This is where everything comes together. In this capstone project, you'll integrate all the skills from this course by creating a comprehensive HR metrics dashboard and conducting a technology assessment with recommendations—portfolio-ready deliverables that demonstrate your ability to translate HR data into actionable insights.
