GenAI for Execs & Business Leaders: Formulate Your Use Case

Overview

As an exec or business leader, integrating genAI effectively into your organization will be a top priority. However, navigating how to strategically use this tool is daunting. This short course guides you through formulating effective genAI use cases for your area of business. Through a series of hands-on activities, you will apply genAI best practices while using IBM’s watsonx AI engine to brainstorm ways to leverage this powerful tool in your organization. You will then construct a potential use case yourself. You will: - Write effective prompts - Develop a business goal to address your pain points - Choose an appropriate genAI application suited to your goal - Critically examine your use case feasibility by considering common risks and reflecting on ways to mitigate them. Throughout the course, you will draw on your own industry expertise and leverage that knowledge to refine your ideas for your organization with genAI assistance. To get the most from this course, we recommend you take the first 2 courses in the Generative AI for Executives and Business Leaders specialization as well. You should also be familiar with basic AI terminology and common AI business concepts.

Syllabus

Develop Effective Prompts

In this module, you’ll learn how to communicate effectively with generative AI tools through effective prompts to get high-quality, business-relevant outputs. You’ll experiment with different prompting and gain hands-on experience in crafting prompts tailored to your specific use cases—helping you move from experimentation to strategic application.

Develop an AI Use Case

In this module, you’ll learn to apply GenAI strategically within your organization. You’ll learn how to identify and write high-impact GenAI use cases that align with business goals and also consider the potential risks. Through real-world case studies—both successful and unsuccessful—you’ll explore what makes a use case effective and sustainable. You’ll also evaluate the feasibility of your proposed use case by analyzing AI outputs, refining your ideas, and applying lessons learned from real business scenarios. By the end, you’ll have a well-formulated, viable GenAI use case ready to present in your own organization.
