Syllabus

  • Setting goals and aligning work to organizational priorities
    • Managers translate organizational objectives into practical goals for their teams. Clear goal alignment helps employees understand how their work contributes to broader organizational outcomes and ensures that team efforts remain focused on priority activities. This module introduces the practices managers use to define team goals, communicate expectations, and monitor progress toward objectives. Learners explore how managers connect team tasks to organizational strategy and clarify responsibilities for individual team members. Instructional demonstrations show how managers review team objectives during meetings conducted through Microsoft Teams, document priorities in shared planning sheets using Excel Online, and track goal progress through simple reporting dashboards. Learners analyze scenarios in which teams experience confusion due to poorly defined goals and evaluate how managers adjust communication and planning practices to restore alignment.
  • Monitoring performance and conducting appraisals
    • Managers must monitor team performance to ensure that work is progressing effectively and that employees receive fair and constructive feedback. This module introduces how managers review performance indicators, interpret performance trends, and conduct structured performance discussions with employees. Learners explore how managers use data to identify strengths, recognize improvement opportunities, and guide development conversations. Instructional demonstrations show how managers review team performance indicators using Power BI dashboards and document performance observations before conducting appraisal discussions. Learners analyze scenarios involving performance reviews and evaluate how managers interpret performance evidence and communicate feedback constructively.
  • Delegating effectively and managing accountability
    • Delegation allows managers to distribute work appropriately while supporting employee development. Effective delegation ensures that tasks are assigned to the right individuals, responsibilities are clear, and accountability is maintained. This module introduces delegation practices that help managers balance workloads and guide team members toward successful outcomes. Instructional demonstrations illustrate how managers organize tasks using simple planning tools such as Excel delegation matrices and coordinate work assignments during Microsoft Teams discussions. Learners analyze workplace scenarios involving workload distribution and evaluate how managers assign responsibilities and follow up on delegated tasks.
  • Evaluating team performance and improving alignment_Project
    • Managers are responsible for ensuring that team activities align with organizational priorities and that performance expectations are clearly defined. When team performance begins to drift from expectations, managers must analyze available information, identify contributing issues, and propose corrective actions. In this project, learners assume the role of a team manager reviewing a team’s recent performance results. The team has completed several projects but has begun missing delivery targets and experiencing uneven workload distribution. Learners analyze a set of simplified team performance indicators, task assignments, and project summaries. Using this information, they identify potential causes of performance issues and recommend actions that improve goal alignment, workload balance, and accountability. The project simulates a common management task: evaluating team performance and determining how to guide the team toward improved results.
