This course is designed for new managers, first-time team leaders, supervisors, and professionals transitioning from individual contributor roles into leadership positions. It is also relevant for early-career managers who want to manage time more effectively, prioritise high-impact work, delegate appropriately, and maintain performance under pressure. The course introduces the key challenges new leaders face when balancing personal workload, team responsibilities, competing demands, and strategic priorities. Learners will explore practical tools such as time audits, planning systems, prioritisation methods, the Eisenhower Matrix, OKRs, delegation techniques, expectation management, and sustainable performance habits. By the end of this course, learners will understand how to organise their time, identify what matters most, align priorities with team and organisational goals, delegate work effectively, manage competing demands, and protect both performance and well-being as they grow into leadership roles.

Syllabus

  • Transitioning into Leadership and Managing Time
    • This module introduces the transition from individual contributor to manager and explores how new leaders can manage their time more intentionally. Learners will examine common challenges for new managers, the need to balance personal and team responsibilities, and practical methods for understanding, planning, and protecting their time.
  • Prioritising High-Impact Work
    • This module focuses on how new leaders decide what deserves attention first. Learners will explore urgency, importance, high-impact work, and the Eisenhower Matrix. They will also learn how to connect priorities to OKRs, team goals, and organisational objectives, and how to review and adjust priorities as circumstances change.
  • Delegating and Managing Team Time
    • This module helps learners understand delegation as a core leadership skill. Learners will explore why managers cannot do everything themselves, how to identify tasks that can be delegated, the difference between work allocation and true delegation, and how to select the right person for each task. The module also covers managing team time, setting expectations, following up, and using delegation to protect strategic priorities.
  • Managing Competing Demands and Sustaining Performance
    • This module focuses on how new leaders can manage pressure when multiple demands compete for attention. Learners will explore how to make informed choices, communicate expectations clearly, maintain trust, and protect performance under pressure. The module also highlights the importance of well-being as a foundation for sustainable leadership and long-term team success.
