In our Pixilation Animation Basics program, learners will explore the process of creating simple animations using the pixilation technique. They will gain an understanding of animation principles and learn the techniques involved in producing pixilation animation.

  • Week 3: Overview of pixilation as an animation technique.
  • Week 4: Examples of famous pixilation animations (e.g., The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb, Neighbours by Norman McLaren).
  • Week 5: Explanation of how pixilation differs from other stop-motion techniques.
  • Week 6: 15 Minutes: Tools and Setup
  • Week 7: Introduction to equipment: cameras, tripods, and stop-motion software (e.g. Monkey Jam).
  • Week 8: Discussion on frame rates and planning movements.
  • Week 9: Planning a shoot
  • Week 10: 30 Minutes: Planning the Animation
  • Week 11: Storyboard Creation:
  • Week 12: Sketching a simple concept for a short sequence.
  • Week 13: Deciding on character movements and interactions.
  • Week 14: Set and Props Preparation:
  • Week 15: Setting up the background and environment.
  • Week 16: Preparing props for the animation.
  • Week 17: Hour 2: Filming the Animation
  • Week 18: 20 Minutes: Positioning and Blocking
  • Week 19: Positioning actors and props for the first sequence.
  • Week 20: Practicing small, incremental movements for smooth animation.
  • Week 21: 40 Minutes: Shooting the Animation
  • Week 22: Capturing frames using stop-motion software.
  • Week 23: Monitoring progress through playback to ensure continuity.
  • Week 24: Troubleshooting common issues (e.g., actor stability, lighting changes).
  • Week 25: Hour 3: Editing and Finalizing
  • Week 26: 30 Minutes: Post-Production
  • Week 27: Editing the sequence in stop-motion software.
  • Week 28: Adding simple effects, sound, or transitions.
  • Week 29: Exporting the final animation.
  • Week 30: 20 Minutes: Showcase and Feedback
