This course explores the evolution and foundational theories of leadership and talent development within the football industry, moving from one-size-fits-all models to bespoke, modern strategies. Learners will understand the academic underpinnings that shape effective leadership, critically reviewing models such as transformational and servant leadership, alongside adult learning theory and performance assessment frameworks. The course also examines the current state of play across typical club structures, including the expansion into multi-club ownership and multi-sport models. Through detailed case studies—such as the Premier League model—learners will identify industry gaps and analyze systematic approaches to both club leadership and talent development. Finally, the curriculum turns inward to focus on self-awareness, guiding learners through mastering the 360-degree feedback process, synthesizing personal strengths, and transforming developmental areas into strategic action plans. Finally, learners will explore internal talent identification and development, mastering training needs analysis, elite sport succession planning, and implementing academy-style development models for organizational excellence. By completing this course learners will be equipped to intentionally design and lead high-performing structures, aligning team culture and systematic talent growth to drive long-term success in the football industry.

Finally, learners will pull it all together by identifying their own strengths and development areas to build a personalized Development Action Plan (DAP). They will learn to map their growth, turn practice into performance, and sustain momentum by reflecting, measuring, and evolving their strategies.
