Entry Certificate in Business Analysis™ (ECBA™) provides individuals, with no business analysis experience who are developing their business analysis skills, with a certificate that recognizes their entry into the business analysis profession.
The target audience for this information includes individuals aspiring to become business analysts, as well as those who already have less than two years of experience in the field. Project managers, product owners, and anyone with an interest in obtaining an IIBA certification are also included in the intended audience. Furthermore, this information is relevant for professionals who are currently certified by IIBA and are seeking opportunities for professional development units.
While prior exposure or interest in the business analysis profession is beneficial, it is not mandatory for participation in the course. However, obtaining IIBA® membership and having access to the BABOK® Guide is recommended, as the course expects participants to read the corresponding BABOK® chapters as they progress. This additional resource can enhance the learning experience and provide valuable insights into the principles and practices of business analysis.
Syllabus
- Overview of the Business Analysis Profession & Requirements Elicitation Process
- In this module, you’ll explore the fundamentals of the business analysis profession with a focus on mastering the requirements elicitation process. You’ll gain a clear understanding of the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA), the role of a business analyst, and the essential competencies needed to succeed in this career path. Through practical, real-world applications, you’ll examine key concepts in business analysis, learn how requirements connect to design, and apply proven elicitation techniques. You’ll also work with a variety of business analysis tools and frameworks to uncover stakeholder needs, refine requirements, and ensure effective solutions—empowering you to deliver greater value and clarity across projects.
- Requirements Analysis and Lifecycle Management
- In this module, you’ll explore the complete process of requirements analysis and lifecycle management, gaining the skills to transform elicitation results into actionable requirements. You’ll learn to specify and model requirements using structured language, matrices, and diagrams, while applying systematic techniques for analysis, verification, and validation. You’ll also define requirements architecture and design options, and practice assessing potential value to recommend effective solutions. Finally, you’ll build expertise in maintaining and managing requirements throughout their lifecycle—ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment across the project from start to finish.
- Business Analysis Planning
- In this module, you’ll develop the skills to plan and structure business analysis activities effectively, ensuring projects are set up for success. You’ll learn how to define the business analysis approach, plan stakeholder engagement, establish governance frameworks, and manage business analysis information. You’ll also explore methods to identify performance improvements that enhance project outcomes. To bridge theory with practice, the module includes a practical case study where you’ll apply these concepts to a real-world scenario—strengthening your ability to design and execute well-structured business analysis plans.
