The course begins with foundational concepts, guiding learners through constructing responsive character blueprints, blendspaces, and animation states. As students advance, they apply input bindings, game modes, and camera logic to build immersive controls. AI design is tackled through reactive behaviors, flinch animations, and magic-based combat mechanics. Learners will then develop layered systems for wave-based enemy spawning, health pickups, and visual feedback, before packaging the completed project into a functional build. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and confidence to build, test, and deploy professional-grade gameplay systems using only Blueprints—no prior coding experience required.

Syllabus

  • Character Setup and Animation Pipeline
    • This module provides foundational skills for designing and implementing playable and AI-controlled characters in Unreal Engine. Learners will explore character blueprint creation, mesh and animation integration, and state-based animation control. Through hands-on demonstrations, the module guides learners to set up navigation logic, animation blending, and movement systems for both player and non-player characters. By the end of this module, learners will be able to build a fully animated, navigable character using industry-standard Unreal Engine workflows.
  • Game Mechanics and Controls
    • This module focuses on implementing core game mechanics by configuring Game Mode settings, player input systems, and camera behavior within Unreal Engine. Learners will gain hands-on experience in customizing Game Mode classes, setting up character movement through input bindings, and synchronizing camera rotation with player control. By the end of the module, learners will have the foundational knowledge required to construct an interactive gameplay experience that integrates character control with responsive input and game state logic.
  • AI Combat and Magic Systems
    • This module guides learners through the design and implementation of AI combat behavior and magic-based interactions in Unreal Engine. Through a sequence of progressively advanced lessons, learners will develop AI characters that detect, pursue, and react to players, integrate visual and animation-based reaction systems, and construct functional magic attacks and weapon systems. The module emphasizes building attack combos, dealing and receiving damage, and setting up blueprint-driven combat sequences that enhance gameplay mechanics in a top-down survival context.
  • Combat Systems, Health & Final Game Build
    • This module focuses on building advanced combat systems, integrating magic projectiles, enemy wave logic, health mechanics, and final gameplay packaging in Unreal Engine. Learners will implement animated effects for combat spells, program projectile and enemy behaviors, set up health bars and pickups, and manage game progression through events like death cameras and wave notifications. The module concludes with practical steps to package the game into a deployable build, ensuring the project is complete and playable from start to finish.
