This hands-on course guides learners through the process of designing, developing, and deploying a turret-based shoot-em-up game using Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints—without writing a single line of code. The course begins with project setup, turret mechanics, projectile systems, and enemy behaviors. Learners will then implement core gameplay systems like player health, damage feedback, and enemy wave logic. Advancing further, the course teaches how to construct functional UI elements including HUDs, pause menus, game-over screens, and main menus. By the end of this course, learners will have not only created a fully functional action game but also gained the confidence to apply, modify, and extend gameplay features using Blueprint scripting in their own projects.

Syllabus

  • Core Gameplay Mechanics
    • This module introduces the foundational systems for developing a turret-based shoot-em-up game using Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints. Learners will explore project setup, asset integration, material creation, turret logic, projectile implementation, and core combat mechanics. By the end of the module, learners will have constructed an interactive turret system capable of detecting, rotating toward, and firing at enemies while handling basic collisions and combat interactions.
  • Player, UI, and Game Integration
    • This module expands gameplay functionality by incorporating player feedback, user interface design, and game flow management. Learners will implement health systems, visual and auditory damage responses, and create responsive HUDs. Additionally, the module covers menu integration, state transitions, and prepares the project for final delivery through level setup, audio immersion, and packaging techniques.
