This course features Coursera Coach! A smarter way to learn with interactive, real-time conversations that help you test your knowledge, challenge assumptions, and deepen your understanding as you progress through the course. The Lean Six Sigma Professional Track is designed to take you on a journey from Green Belt to Black Belt expertise. This course provides a deep dive into the Six Sigma methodology, focusing on process improvement, data analysis, and project management. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework, with a focus on real-world application, and develop skills to enhance efficiency in various organizational settings. As you progress through the course, you'll begin by learning about the foundational concepts and the historical evolution of Six Sigma. You will then be introduced to key tools such as SIPOC, control charts, regression techniques, and FMEA, which will aid you in analyzing and solving complex business problems. By the time you reach the advanced Black Belt level, you’ll be equipped to lead projects, analyze process behaviors, and implement sustainable improvements. The course is suitable for professionals across all industries who want to enhance their skills in process optimization. It is particularly useful for business analysts, quality managers, and operations professionals. The course is challenging, but prior knowledge of basic statistics and process improvement principles will be helpful. By the end of the course, you will be able to effectively define, measure, analyze, improve, and control processes. You’ll have a solid grasp of Six Sigma techniques, the ability to lead Six Sigma projects, and the expertise to use data analysis tools to solve operational problems.

Syllabus

  • Introduction
    • In this module, we will introduce the fundamental concepts of Six Sigma, provide an overview of its historical evolution, and explore the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework, which serves as the backbone for continuous process improvement.
  • Define and Measure Phases
    • In this module, we will dive deep into the Define and Measure phases, focusing on applying the Six Sigma framework practically. You'll learn to distinguish important statistical concepts, define project parameters with SIPOC diagrams, and understand the significance of project charters in Six Sigma.
  • Analyze - Control Charts and Box Plots
    • In this module, we will explore analytical techniques in the Analyze phase, including control charts, box plots, and the 5-Why method, to diagnose process variations and identify underlying causes of defects.
  • Analyze - Basic and Core Techniques
    • In this module, we will cover basic analytical techniques such as Cause & Effect diagrams and the Pareto principle to efficiently analyze and improve processes by focusing on the most impactful issues and eliminating wasteful activities.
  • Analyze - Regression Techniques
    • In this module, we will introduce regression techniques, including simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and logistic regression, to understand variable relationships and predict future outcomes in Six Sigma projects.
  • Analyze - Hypothesis Testing
    • In this module, we will cover hypothesis testing techniques, including t-tests and ANOVA, to help you make data-driven decisions. We will also demonstrate how to apply these tests using Excel for real-world analysis.
  • FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
    • In this module, we will explore the Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology, focusing on how to identify and assess risks of failure modes and prioritize corrective actions based on severity, occurrence, and detection ratings.
  • Improve
    • In this module, we will focus on strategies for implementing improvements in processes based on data-driven insights, aiming to reduce variation and enhance efficiency in the "Improve" phase of Six Sigma.
  • Control
    • In this module, we will examine the "Control" phase of Six Sigma, emphasizing tools like control charts, poka-yoke techniques for mistake-proofing, and how to maintain process stability by implementing corrective and preventive actions.
