This course covers the advanced knowledge and skills a project manager needs to update a project plan in Project during the execution, monitoring, and controlling phases of a project. In other words, once your project plan is approved by the project sponsor, this course will enable you to manage the project so that it is completed on time, within budget, and according to scope. This material will benefit users of any current Project desktop version. The course environment setup is based on Project 2021. This course is designed for business professionals with an understanding of project management concepts and who are responsible for creating and maintaining project plans. Target students will be looking to acquire the advanced knowledge and skills needed to update a project plan in Microsoft Project during the execution, monitoring, and controlling phases of a project. Syllabus

  • Updating a Project Plan
    • Once you have created a Microsoft® Project® plan, shared it with your sponsor, stakeholders, and team members, and received approval to start doing the work, you have entered the execution phase of the project. During this phase, it is very important to measure your progress against the plan so that you can make good decisions to keep the project on track.
  • Viewing Project Progress
    • So far, you may have only worked with a few of the views that are available in Microsoft® Project®. There is much more project information you can see with views, and views can be customized to meet your needs. In this lesson, you will explore the many views designed to review the project plan's progress, create custom views, and work with the Timeline view.
  • Reporting on Project Progress
    • As your project progresses, keeping stakeholders and other members of your organization informed is a very important part of project management. By keeping your project plan up to date and carefully recording progress accurately, you have paved the way to communicate your project status through the rich reporting capabilities that Microsoft® Project® provides. By creating and sharing reports, you and your stakeholders can easily assess the project's status and make critical decisions with the right information at the right time. In this lesson, you will work with Project's report features.
  • Reusing Project Plan Information
    • Microsoft® Project® is a powerful tool for managing a project plan throughout the life of a project. Up to now, you have used the various features of Project to monitor a project, control a project to keep it on track, and create a number of views and reports to communicate status information.
  • Working with Multiple Projects
    • Up to now, you have been using Microsoft® Project® to manage a single project. The software is powerful enough to allow you to share resources among multiple projects, and to manage multiple projects that are part of a master project. In this lesson, you will learn how to leverage Project to do both of these things.
  • Completing the Course
    • You'll wrap things up and then validate what you've learned in this course by taking an assessment.
