Microsoft® Visio® stands out among similar applications because of its unique ability to draw a wide variety of diagrams, flowcharts, workflows, and organization structures—anything that can be represented by shapes connected by lines. Most importantly, these shapes can be rearranged and with corresponding lines remaining intact. Visio has improved over the years as features common among Microsoft® Office applications have been added. Today, Visio is well integrated with other members of the Office family as well as Microsoft's cloud-based services. This greatly enriches the sharing and publishing of Visio drawings. In Microsoft® Visio® 2019-2024: Part 1, you learned the basic skills needed to create and modify various Visio drawings. In Microsoft® Visio® 2019-2024: Part 2, you will learn about more advanced features—making you a more efficient and effective Visio user. The target student for this course is a graphic designer, subject matter specialist, or other knowledge worker with basic Microsoft Visio skills (such as creating basic workflows and other diagrams) who needs to use Visio to create complex graphics and illustrations (such as floor plans, custom maps, and scientific illustrations) that may be linked to external data sources and may be inserted into other Microsoft Office files. In this course, you will: design advanced plans and diagrams; enhance the look of drawings; create shapes, stencils, and templates; connect drawings to external data; leverage development tools; and share drawings. This course requires that you have Microsoft Visio installed on a Windows PC. The course setup instructions provided in the first module of the course go into more detail about the hardware and software requirements.

Syllabus

  • Designing Advanced Plans and Diagrams
    • When you connect to your Microsoft® online account, you can access and maintain updated copies of your Microsoft® Visio® files across your various devices. In addition to the basic diagram and plan types that you have seen in the previous course, Visio allows you to create advanced engineering drawings and plans.
  • Enhancing the Look of Drawings
    • When you are creating a drawing, your first priority should be clear and accurate content. Your second priority should be visual appeal. If your drawing isn't attractive, it probably won't be used by the target audience. You don't have to be a graphic artist to produce a visually compelling piece. Microsoft® Visio® contains many tools that enable you to look like a pro even if you aren't.
  • Creating Custom Shapes, Stencils, and Templates
    • The online library for Microsoft® Visio® gives you access to a vast number of templates, stencils, and shapes. For most jobs, these resources are fine. Sometimes, however, you will need to create custom shapes, stencils, and templates.
  • Connecting Drawings to External Data
    • You know how to create drawings manually. It can take a lot of time to construct a complex diagram. Microsoft® Visio® contains a number of templates, wizards, and tools that will automatically build drawings for you from external data sources.
  • Leveraging Development Tools
    • Like all products in the Microsoft® Office suite, Microsoft® Visio® is an extremely robust program. Many users never take full advantage of Visio's capabilities. Even if you aren't a programmer, it is good to become aware of Visio's advanced capabilities so that you can use them when you need them.
  • Sharing Drawings
    • Now that you know how to design informative and appealing drawings, you need to be familiar with the many ways you can share those drawings with others.
  • Completing the Course
    • You'll wrap things up and then validate what you've learned in this course by taking an assessment.
