This course teaches an overview of journal publishing, informing you how to take advantage of different publishing opportunities. It provides an insight into the shift to digital publishing and evaluates the different publishing models, and also gives the necessary information for assessing your options when publishing your research.

  • The Development of Publishing Models
    • This module explores how journal publishing has evolved from print to digital formats and examines the key publishing models available to researchers, including Open Access, subscription publishing, and preprints. You will learn how these options affect the visibility and accessibility of research and develop the knowledge needed to choose the most appropriate publication pathway for your work.
  • Why and Where to Publish?
    • This module explores the role of academic journals in scholarly communication and explains how the journal publishing process works. You will learn about the benefits of publishing journal articles, key factors to consider before submission, and how to identify the most suitable journal or publisher for your research.
  • Defining Authorship
    • This module explores the concept of authorship in academic publishing, including the roles and responsibilities of different contributors. You will learn how to work effectively with co-authors, navigate the challenges and benefits of collaboration, and manage communication with publishers and author teams throughout the publication process.
