This course focuses on the HVAC components most commonly utilized during colder months. By moving beyond simple terminology, you will gain the technical insights necessary to establish a strong professional foundation as a technician. By mastering the identification and function of these heating-specific components, you will be better prepared to handle the high demands of the heating season with precision and confidence.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to Heating Motors
    • This module provides a detailed walkthrough of high-efficiency gas furnace anatomy, highlighting the physical location and purpose of critical internal components. It covers the air path from the return duct through the filtering system and blower, into the combustion and heat exchange phases. Technicians will gain a clear understanding of how the inducer motor, gas valve, and dual heat exchangers work in tandem to provide heat while maximizing fuel efficiency.
  • Gas Heating Parts
    • This module introduces the manifold gauge set, the most essential tool for diagnosing and servicing refrigeration systems. It provides a detailed breakdown of the gauge's physical components, including the color-coded hoses and high/low-side valves. Technicians will learn how to accurately interpret pressure readings and use the integrated temperature scales to evaluate system performance.
  • Hydronics
    • This module breaks down the fundamental components and physical layout of a standard split-system air conditioner. It explains how the system removes heat from the home through the evaporator coil and rejects it outside via the condensing unit. Additionally, the module covers the vital role of the air handler and filtration system in maintaining airflow and indoor air quality throughout the cooling cycle.
  • Electrical and Safety Controls
    • This module provides an in-depth examination of the outdoor condensing unit, focusing on both its structural design and internal mechanical operations. It details how the compressor and condenser fan motor work together to dissipate heat from the high-pressure refrigerant into the outside environment. Additionally, the module covers the electrical enclosure, explaining the critical roles that capacitors and contactors play in starting and regulating the system’s high-voltage components.
  • Final Knowledge Check
    • This final knowledge check is designed to reinforce key concepts from the lesson and assess your understanding. You’ll apply what you’ve learned through a series of multiple choice questions, helping ensure you’re confident and ready to move forward.
