How do organizations succeed when teams, priorities, and challenges are constantly changing? Building Psychological Safety in Teams introduces Harvard Business School Professor Amy Edmondson's framework for leading teams in dynamic environments. Learners explore how modern organizations collaborate across functions, adapt to uncertainty, and build psychologically safe cultures that encourage people to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from mistakes. Through examples from healthcare, finance, technology, and the military, learners examine how dynamic teaming enables organizations to solve complex problems and improve performance.

Syllabus

  • Dynamic Teaming in a VUCA World
    • Organizations today operate in environments defined by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In this module, you'll explore why traditional approaches to teamwork and management often struggle under these conditions and how dynamic teaming helps organizations adapt. You'll learn how leaders assemble teams with the right mix of expertise, navigate cross-functional collaboration, and create the conditions necessary for effective problem-solving in a rapidly changing world.
  • Understanding Psychological Safety
    • Why do people stay silent when they have important information to share? In this module, you'll explore the concept of psychological safety and its role in helping teams learn, collaborate, and perform effectively. Through real-world examples and practical frameworks, you'll examine the hidden costs of impression management, explore the four dimensions of psychological safety, and learn how leaders can create environments where people feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and contributing their best ideas.
  • Diagnosing and Building Team Culture
    • Creating a psychologically safe culture requires more than good intentions. In this module, you'll learn how leaders can assess psychological safety, interpret team culture, and build organizational support for meaningful change. Through the experiences of Per Hugander and SEB, you'll explore how measurement creates visibility, why culture initiatives often encounter resistance, and how leaders can connect psychological safety to business performance in order to generate lasting buy-in.
  • Leading High-performance Conversations
    • Psychological safety creates the conditions for collaboration, but leaders also need processes that help teams turn diverse perspectives into better decisions. In this module, you'll explore how high-performance conversations enable cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges, build shared understanding, and make progress on strategic goals. Through SEB's use of Jazz Dialogues and structured conversations, you'll learn how leaders create shared language, strengthen collaboration across organizational boundaries, and improve the quality of team decision-making.
