Syllabus

  • Week 1: Understand Power BI and Power BI Data Analysis
    • New Power BI users will begin the course by gaining a conceptual understanding of the Power BI desktop application and the Power BI service. Learners will explore the Power BI interface while learning how to manage pages and understand the basics of visualizations. Learners can download a course dataset to enjoy guided, hands-on exercises in importing, connecting, cleaning, transforming and modeling data in the Power BI desktop application. Learners will investigate reports, learn about workspaces, and practice viewing, creating, and publishing reports to the Power BI service. Finally, learners will become proficient in the creation and utilization of dashboards.
  • Week 2: Introduction to Modeling Data and Report Visualizations
    • Data modeling is where your data begins to tell its story. In this module, you’ll explore how Power BI transforms raw information into meaningful insights through relationships, calculations, and visualizations. You’ll learn how Power Pivot captures the key connections in your data and how Power View brings those models to life with interactive charts, graphs, and maps. By working in the Model and Report views of Power BI Desktop, you’ll see how data modeling connects directly to decision‑making and business performance.
  • Week 3: Navigate Reports and Visualizations
    • Explore how Power BI visualizations turn data into insights. Create charts and maps that reveal patterns, connect queries to answer business questions, apply filters and drill-throughs to uncover meaning, and publish reports that drive smarter decisions.
  • Week 4: Navigate the Power BI Service
    • Discover how workspaces, dashboards, datasets, and apps in Power BI Service help you move beyond individual reports to collaborative, decision‑driven insights. By understanding how to share, connect, and integrate Power BI with Microsoft 365, you’ll see how your data can become a catalyst for teamwork, alignment, and smarter business outcomes.
  • Week 5: Final Review
    • Take time to consolidate everything you’ve learned and demonstrate your mastery. The final review helps you revisit key concepts, reflect on your progress, and apply your skills in a comprehensive assessment that confirms your readiness to use Power BI with confidence
