  • What Is Culturally Responsive Research?
    • This module introduces the principles of culturally responsive research and explores how culture, identity, and lived experience can shape the research process. You will examine the importance of engaging respectfully with diverse and marginalized groups, recognize and address cultural biases, and learn how culturally responsive approaches can improve research quality, impact, and inclusivity.
  • Designing Culturally Responsive Research
    • This module explores how to apply culturally responsive principles during the research design stage. You will learn how to work collaboratively with communities to refine research ideas, evaluate the cultural relevance of your study, select appropriate participants and methods, and incorporate diverse perspectives and local knowledge to create more meaningful, inclusive, and effective research.
  • Avoiding Common Mistakes in Culturally Responsive Research
    • This module focuses on maintaining cultural responsiveness throughout the research process by recognizing, preventing, and addressing common challenges and mistakes. You will learn how to avoid stereotyping, use identity categories thoughtfully, account for historical and cultural contexts, and communicate about diverse groups in ways that are inclusive, respectful, and accurate.
  • Recruiting and Setting Up Participation
    • This module explores the ethical dimensions of culturally responsive research, from identifying gaps in existing data to recruiting participants and gaining informed consent. You will learn how to balance potential benefits and harms, engage communities meaningfully in ethical decision-making, and use culturally responsive approaches to recruitment, consent, and study design.
  • Collecting and Handling Sensitive Data
    • This module examines how to manage and protect participant data in culturally responsive research. You will learn how to develop effective data management plans, apply appropriate confidentiality and anonymity practices, safeguard sensitive information, and address the unique data management considerations associated with different research methods and participant groups.
