The Sommelier Essentials Exam comprises three distinct components. Earning your Sommelier Essentials Certificate requires successfully passing all three examination sections.
- Theory component: The Hospitality Beverage Specialist Credential examination from the Society of Wine Educators fulfills the theory portion of the Sommelier Essentials certification. This section is administered online and allows you to complete it at your preferred time. Upon successful completion, you'll earn the recognized Hospitality Beverage Specialist Credential.
- Service component: Your knowledge of service protocols and wine and food pairing principles will be evaluated through an interactive, hands-on practical examination.
- Tasting component: You will blind taste two different wines and provide comprehensive written sensory analysis of each.

- Online Exam Upgrade available for an additional fee for those preferring remote testing
