Media Composer Fundamentals II (MC110) builds on foundational editing knowledge and prepares video editors to master intermediate effects creation within Avid Media Composer, the professional non-linear editing application used across film and television production. This course strengthens technical skills and organizational expertise necessary for assistant editor roles while developing proficiency with creative tools and editing techniques that produce broadcast-quality video.

You will learn to use dynamic trim techniques to refine actor performances in dramatic scenes and assemble news packages efficiently under deadline pressure. Through practical class projects and hands-on exercises, you will work with real-world material, including unscripted documentary content and scripted comedy scenes. Upon completion of this course and Media Composer Fundamentals I (MC101), you will be prepared to pursue the Avid Certified User credential in Media Composer.

  • Utilize Media Composer's advanced trim tools to dynamically adjust scene pacing and rhythm
  • Adjust Clip Gain and employ Pan and Volume automation to create balanced audio mixes
  • Create pan-and-zoom style camera movements over still images or video clips
  • Apply effects to solve common image challenges, including stabilization, face and logo blur, and jump cut removal
  • Create freeze-frames, slow-motion effects, and TimeWarp manipulations
  • Use multi-layer effects for split-screens, superimposition, and composite video elements, including SpectraMatte chroma-key effects
  • Optimize effect rendering for improved playback performance
  • Develop animated titles using NewBlue Titler Pro
  • Manage render files efficiently to maintain organized media drives
  • Implement correct backup procedures for project files and associated media
  • Utilize Avid's autosave feature to recover lost work
  • Relink media files when necessary
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common technical issues, such as Media Offline errors
  • Configure settings to maximize efficiency and prevent complications
  • Output finished programs according to broadcast delivery standards
  • Prepare successfully for the associated certification examination
