In this 1 hour 7 minute lecture from the Joint IAS/PU Arithmetic Geometry series, explore Princeton University mathematician Lue Pan's work on "Plectic Lie algebra action on the cohomology of Hilbert modular varieties." Discover a new proof of Jan Nekovář's result on the semisimplicity of Galois action on p-adic intersection cohomology of Hilbert modular varieties with coefficients in automorphic local systems, specifically for the non-CM part of the cohomology. Learn how this approach extends to locally analytic completed cohomology and contrasts with Nekovář's method by using partial Sen operators at p to construct a plectic Lie algebra action rather than partial Frobenii at places away from p. The talk presents joint work in progress with Yuanyang Jiang and is scheduled for April 28, 2025, at 3:35pm in Simonyi 101 with remote access available.
