This conference talk explores the current state of hygiene and disinfection research and practices for immersive virtual reality experiences, presented at IEEE. Discover findings from a survey of 42 respondents about popular cleaning methods and procedures used across various fields for VR equipment. Learn about the challenges faced by both private and public stakeholders who have adopted VR technology, as the efficacy and safety of cleaning solutions remain largely understudied despite growing commercial availability of VR headsets. The presenters, Emil Rosenlund Høeg and Stefania Serafin from Aalborg University and Belinda Lange from Flinders University, raise awareness about the limited state of VR hygiene research and call for cooperative efforts to address these concerns. Part of the XR technology infrastructure session, this 11-minute presentation highlights the need for better research and guidelines to support the safe operation of shared VR equipment.
