Water is the source of life and the foundation of culture. Since the dawn of humanity, we have shared an inseparable bond with water. Using water as a carrier, human beings have created splendid cultures and written glorious chapters of civilization. Jiangxi, abbreviated as "Gan," is located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, belonging to the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River as an inland region. Influenced by the monsoon, the province enjoys abundant precipitation and water resources. Over 2,400 rivers and streams of various sizes within Jiangxi form the Poyang Lake water system, known as the "Five Rivers and One Lake." The Gan River, Fu River, Xin River, Rao River, and Xiu River—the five main rivers—all flow into Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China.
Journey Through Jiangxi: A Bilingual Journey into Water Culture* is a bilingual general education course. The course consists of six units, each introducing one of the five rivers or Poyang Lake. Each unit is further divided into six subsections, covering four major teaching modules: teaching guide, video lectures, unit quizzes, and extended reading. By completing this course, learners will gain an understanding of the hydrological overview, historical changes, ecological governance, cultural customs, as well as the political and economic development of the areas surrounding these river basins and the lake.
