  • Week 1: Installation of VirtualBox on Windows: (Opening Firefox web browser, Accessing VirtualBox download page, Downloading VirtualBox for Windows hosts, Checking virtualization status in Task Manager, Enabling virtualization in BIOS (if required), Locating the downloaded installer file, Running VirtualBox installer as administrator, Accepting license agreement, Proceeding with default custom setup, Handling network disconnection warning, installing Oracle VirtualBox, Completing installation and launching VirtualBox)
  • Week 2: Installing Ubuntu OS in Oracle VirtualBox : (Creating a new virtual machine, selecting Ubuntu ISO file, configuring unattended installation, setting username and password, allocating memory and CPU, configuring virtual hard disk, starting Ubuntu installation)
  • Week 3: Ubuntu Desktop: (Desktop workspace, panels and menus, search and open apps, opening the terminal, network, sound and power)
  • Week 4: Synaptic-Package-Manager: (Introduction to Synaptic Package Manager, Synaptic Package Manager installation using terminal, checking settings and repositories, installation of VLC Media Player using Synaptic Package Manager, verifying the installation)
  • Week 5: Basic-commands: (Introduction to Linux commands, using the terminal, command interpreter (shell), default shell in Linux, internal and external commands, PATH variable)
  • Week 6: Date and Time Commands in Linux: (Introduction to date command, displaying date and time, using date options, combining date options, using man command for help, use cal command to display calendar of a month, installing ncal package, viewing calendars)
  • Week 7: Structure of Linux Commands: (Structure of Linux commands, command name and arguments, options, using ls with options (-a, --all, -d), Linux help commands: man, apropos, whatis, --help)
  • Week 8: General Purpose Utilities in Linux: (Echo command and escape sequences, checking kernel version, identifying users, changing password, root user privileges)
  • Week 9: File System: (Directory, files, types of files, home directory and current directory, change directory (cd), mkdir, rmdir)
  • Week 10: Working with Regular Files in Linux: (Copying files using the cp command and its important options, moving and renaming files using the mv command, deleting files and directories safely using the rm command, comparing files using cmp and counting content using wc)
  • Week 11: Linux File Ownership and Permissions: (Linux file ownership and access permissions, using chown and chmod commands with practical examples, change group ownership of files using the chgrp command, managing groups and inodes, understanding inodes and view inode numbers)
  • Week 12: Redirection pipes: (Input, output and error stream, output and error redirection, redirection: > and >>, pipes)
  • Week 13: Working with linux process–Basics of Linux Processes and Shell : (Shell process, process spawning – parent and child process, process attributes – pid, ppid, init process, user process and system process, ps with options)
  • Week 14: The Linux environment: (Environment variable vs local variables, set command, env command, SHELL, HOME, PATH, LOGNAME, PS1, PS2, history command, ! and ~ command, alias command)
  • Week 15: Basics of system administration: (Root login using su allows administrative access, user management uses UID and GID to identify users and groups, useradd creates new user accounts, usermod modifies and userdel removes users, disk usage is checked using du and df)
  • Week 16: Simple filters: (Linux filters process text from standard input and give output, head and tail display the beginning and end of a file, sort arranges lines in a specified order, cut extracts selected fields from each line, paste merges lines from one or more files)
  • Week 17: Regular expressions: (Grep command, search, pattern, regular expressions, extended regular expression, the grep command, to see the content of a file, to list the entries of a particular stream, to ignore cases, lines that do not match the pattern, to list)
  • Week 18: Extended regular expression: (Linux system administration managing users, groups, and disk usage, su switches to another user, usually the administrator, adduser, usermod, and userdel manage user accounts, UID and GID uniquely identify users and groups in Linux, du and df check disk usage and free space)
  • Week 19: sed - the stream editor: (Stream, editor, display, substitute, insert, delete are some common stream editor (sed) topics suitable for a Linux Spoken Tutorial: introduction to stream editing and sed syntax, reading input from files and standard input, printing and suppressing output (-n, p), line addressing and ranges, substitution using the s command, using regular expressions in sed)
  • Week 20: More on sed: (Substitute text in files using sed substitution commands, insert new lines or text at specified locations, delete selected lines or patterns from input, summary of common sed editing operations, using multiple sed commands, pipelining sed with other Linux commands)
