ABOUT THE COURSE:A Sustainable habitat aims to enhance equity, affordability and accessibility for all stakeholders, thereby improving livability and Quality of Life. Several urban planning and development schemes have been initiated and implemented in urban areas of India and other developing nations, such as Affordable housing solutions, Age friendly living, Child friendly cities, Rejuvenation of city core through provision and augmentation of basic infrastructure, Walkable Environments, Transit oriented Development, etc, which are often adopted from schemes generated in developed nations. Success of such schemes towards attaining the goal of sustainable development is often limited due to the absence of research on issues in developing nation context, detailing problems, lived realities and experiences, and highlighting indigenously developed solutions. The challenge of sustainable urban development begins with indicators and benchmarks, which have to be modified as per specific socio-economic and cultural context. The course delves into four major components of SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and explores various overlapping concepts and indicators and their respective thresholds and benchmarks in Indian urban context.INTENDED AUDIENCE: Students, academicians and professionals working in the field of housing & real estate developmentINDUSTRY SUPPORT: Urban Local Bodies (Municipalities, Municipal Corporations, Development Authorities), CPWD, National Institute of Urban Affairs, & Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India
